INTRUST Bank Arena Announces Award Winners from Fifth Annual Wingapalozoa

SMG and INTRUST Bank Arena are pleased to announce the results of Wingapalooza 2019. The fifth year event, which was held today, Saturday, July 20, 2019 at INTRUST Bank Arena, hosted a crowd of more than 1,300 guests on the arena’s floor and showcased the culinary flare of 17 local restaurants and chefs.

Wingapalooza took take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the main arena floor and included all-you-can-eat wings, a Samuel Adams Beer Garden, a wing-eating contest, stein-hoisting contest and entertainment and music from a live DJ. Fans had the opportunity to sample unique chicken wing recipes from the 17 restaurants and local chefs who showcased their culinary flare and craft and competed for the best chicken wings in Wichita. The participating restaurants and chefs vied for two awards at the event which were presented by Visit Wichita: a People’s Choice Award or “Lord of the Wings” and a Judge’s Choice Award. INTRUST Bank Arena and Visit Wichita are proud to announce that the 2019 Lord of the Wings award winner is Reflection Ridge Golf Course. Second place for the People’s Choice Award went to Sorrel’s Jamaican Food and third place went to Chisholm’s American Beef & Ale House. First place for the 2019 Judge’s Choice Award went to 6S Steakhouse and the judges noted that they loved the flavor profile of the wing, the color and texture was well balanced, and there was just enough heat. Second place went to Chisholm’s American Beef & Ale House and the judges noted that they enjoyed how saucy the wing was and that the flavor was well balanced. Third place went to Sorrel’s Jamaican Food and the judges noted that they enjoyed the smoked flavor of the wings and how tender they were.

Returning for the third year to this year’s Wingapalooza was a wing-eating contest between Wichita’s local first responders. Sedgwick County Sherriff’s Department and Sedgwick County EMS competed in the third annual wing-eating contest and the Sedgwick County Sherriff’s Department prevailed. The Sherriff’s Officers took home a wing-eating champions trophy as well as a staycation package from the Courtyard Marriott.

Participating restaurants included Pizza Hut Wingstreet, SAVOR… Wichita, Slim Chickens, The Keg Sports Bar and Grill, Twin Peaks – East Wichita, Chisholm’s American Beef & Ale House, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse, Chick N Max, FYRE, 6S Steakhouse, Reflection Ridge Golf Course, Emerson Biggin’s Old Town and Sorrel’s Jamaican Food.
